It's a long time since I last wrote, isn't it? I have quite a number of stories about Portugal to tell you but life has got in the way. Over the summer I had eye problems which made close work and reading very difficult. Things are improving and I am hoping that when things have settled down, new glasses will mean I can fully resume reading, writing and so on.
We have also been engaged upon a craft project, something I shall tell you about soon, and that has taken up a great deal of time. Now, however, I have two new stories for you. The first comes from Valongo, the town on the periphery of Porto, where I came across the bread festival.
Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey? Well now prepare for the fifty-first shade but don't be disappointed that it's nothing like the shades E L James wrote about.
The second is more general. It's about the Portuguese response to the diminishing demand for wine bottle corks.
I trust you will enjoy these stories.
My best wishes to you all and happy holidays in Portugal.
